If what Jesus claims here is true, and He says it is true, then Jesus is the great “I am?”  Jesus is divine.  He is God in the flesh.  He is the eternal God who has always existed – the eternal God who reigns over all creation, and Almighty God who will one day return and to judge the living and the dead.  But He is also the God of grace who has made it possible for you to never see death.

The Gospel: The Church is the Hope of the World

God sent Jesus to do for you what you could not do for yourself to set you free and make you His very own.  So, then, if God did not spare His own Son but gave Him up for us all, how will He not also with Him graciously give us all things?  This is why the Church is the hope of the world!  For every single human being longs to be loved, to be valued, to belong.  And that’s what God did for you through the gospel.

Moses’ heart was with pleasing God.  He would rather live for Christ, then be the richest man on earth.  His value system was a kingdom value system, and it was this kingdom value system that dictated his choices.  Can we say the same? Do we make our choices in light of the rewards of eternity or in light of what they can do for us today?  There’s a tension here and we can all feel it: we are constantly being pulled toward the treasures of the world or the treasure of God’s smile. But choices based on faith choose eternities rewards over the rewards of earth.

What does this waiting involve? It means that I wait without demanding change.  I wait without anxiety.  I wait without anger.  Not easy to do in your own strength.   So, being patient then, is more than simply an attitude or an action.  It’s action with an attitude.

You no longer have to be defined by your mistakes, your selfishness or your sins. You don’t have to live there anymore. Leave it behind and go with God into the new life He gives you:a life where you can be your true self – a life where you are free to live as His beloved and love others as God has loved you.  This is why Jesus set you free – not so you can do what you’ve always wanted to do – but so you can now do what you were created to do – to bring God glory!

Eating this meal would be their moment of faith.  By OBEYING God’s Word, slaughtering an unblemished lamb and then daubing its blood on the doorposts of their homes they were acknowledging that they deserved to die every bit as much as their enemies… they were acknowledging their need for God’s mercy.

Is there something you are holding back from God?  Is there a sin you’re treasuring, that you won’t let go?  Is there a resentment you’re harboring?  Is there an ungodly habit that you’re not giving to God?  Jesus rescued you from the dominion of darkness, but is there a part of you still walking in darkness?  God doesn’t want just part of you.  God wants all of you.  He wants you to escape the darkness.

We are linked to this same story… The same God who delivered Israel by His mighty hand is the same God who delivers us.  God delivered us by the mighty hand of Jesus: Jesus came to rescue us from this present evil age.  By His death he not only forgave us, but rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of light.  This is what Jesus did.

Pharaoh had seen what God’s power can do: his gods have been humiliated, his country ruined, even his flesh felt the sting of God’s wrath, but as far as God was concerned He’s been easy on Pharaoh. Up till now, He’s given him a touch of His mighty hand; but now God’s going to lay the hammer down. But before he does, God calls out Pharaoh’s sin: You still set yourself against my people and will not let them go.
