Jesus has given us a beautiful and powerful way to identify ourselves as followers of Jesus Christ. In Matthew 28:19-20 he says, “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Therefore, we practice believers baptism by immersion here at Rock Springs Church.
Water baptism allows us to declare we are now following Jesus by faith in a new way of life. It symbolizes our spiritual union with Jesus in his death, burial and resurrection and expresses our new relationship with the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.
By our baptism we get to express this new relationship as children of a loving Father; as servants who are united with Jesus in a new way of life; and witnesses who are empowered by the Spirit to make disciples of all peoples in our world.
