If God had shown Moses that he was fully qualified for his calling, what would have happened? It would have led Moses to trust in his gifts, to trust in himself and his abilities, rather than trust in his God.

God still comes down to awaken those He calls to join Him in bringing people out of bondage and into a new life with Christ. God still meets people in their sin, redeems them by faith in Jesus and invites them to join Him  in calling people out of darkness to bring them into the Promised Land – the Kingdom of the Son He loves.  God still calls broken people, sin-scared people, and forgotten people, just like Moses, to join Him in His story.

God wasn’t finished with Moses.  Moses was a murderer, Moses was a fugitive, Moses was a stranger in a strange land.  Now this was a new beginning for Moses.  It appeared that he had lost everything, but now God was about to give him a whole new beginning.

God can still use your influence, if not with your grandchildren, perhaps right here in the lives of children here in Eloy.  Even if one person here today gave of themselves to mentor, pray for, or even teach a young person in our community, can you imagine the impact that would have?  If God worked through Moses’ family, He can still work through you!

Because they feared God more than Pharaoh, they did a beautiful and splendid thing. In fact, that’s what their names mean:  Shiphrah means “beautiful one” and Puah means “splendid one.”  Here then, is the first act of civil disobedience.  Pharaoh gave them a direct order, and they disobeyed it. Pharaoh was the most powerful man in the world. He could have them executed with the wave of a hand.  But Shiphrah and Puah dared risk their lives for the babies, all because they feared God.

God’s faithfulness to us is dependent upon His character. And that’s good news.  We are prone to wander, even though we’ve been delivered from the power of the flesh by the blood of Christ, the flesh in us still works to reclaim its power over us.  The flesh in us still wants to lead us, call the shots and get us to live by the flesh rather than by faith. So sometimes we will sin, sometimes we might even walk away from God for a season.  But God will never walk away from us.

Humility and service are the benchmarks of a Christ follower. You and I have a place in God’s story. And Joseph shows us how to play our part. No matter where you find yourself, you can just walk with the God who is for you, and serve with whatever gifts and talents God has given you.

God who formed your heart, wants to be reunited with you. The Father wants you to know Him. The Father wants you to be with Him in an eternal relationship. Your relationship with Him is the number one thing on His heart. Like Joseph, we were lost and He’s done everything in His power to bring you home to Him. That’s why He sent Jesus. This is the gospel in a nut shell: For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. 1 Peter 3:18 Nothing heals a broken heart more than being reunited with the one you love.

Can there be a more beautiful picture of reconciliation than this? There is no animosity in Joseph, only grace. No more separation, but embrace. No more hiding, but total acceptance. No more guilt, just tears of joy. After 22 years of brokenness due to jealousy and hatred, God’s family was whole again. And their future is secure.

God has forced them to come to grips with their sin. Why? Because He loves them too much to leave them the way they are. At this point they are totally lost. “Their hearts sank” And that’s good thing. Because that is what God’s discipline is meant to do. It’s meant to bring us to the end of ourselves so that God can change us.
