God is not absent from the pain and suffering of our world. He did not just get this world going and leave it to its own devices. He cares about the injustice, evil and moral decay that is spiraling out of control in our land. He hears the anguished cries of wives who’ve lost their spouses, of children who’ve lost their fathers, of brothers and sisters like you and me who grieve over evil, who fear for their children and grandchildren. Our bond is not found in our shared experience of coming to worship services, being part of a Journey Group or some other kind of religious activity. That’s not what binds us together. That’s not what makes us different. What makes us different is our forgiveness found in our faith in Jesus. For once we are forgiven God puts His Spirit in us. We are forgiven forever, perfected by Jesus to be the dwelling place of His Spirit.

Today we live with a lot of uncertainty. Our economy is fickle. Our future as a great nation is not guaranteed. Even our Christian faith regularly comes under attack. Fear is the enemy of faith. And when we let fear control us rather than trust, it can lead us to do some pretty questionable things.

Our forgiveness of others is what makes us most like Jesus. That’s why Jesus wants us to pray this way. He wants us to treat others the same way He has treated us. Think of it this way:The price God paid to forgive you is the same price He paid to forgive the person who wronged you.
