You see at the heart of every Christ follower is this driving passion to know Jesus, to learn His teachings, and embrace His gospel.  These first believers didn’t just add Jesus to their already busy lives, Jesus became the center of their lives.  They went to the Temple courts to hear messages about Jesus.  They met together in their homes to memorize the stories of Jesus.  Everything in the early church was founded on their passion for Jesus… They couldn’t get enough of Jesus!

Often non-beleivers will treat us poorly to see how we will respond. They will bait us by their poor behavior to us to see if we will sink to their level and retaliate.  If we then do retaliate; then they can discredit our faith or affirm their belief that Christianity is false.  But if we treat them well and give them respect we show them an alternative way to live – we show them the way of love.

GRACE… God gave us His grace so we would be dispensers of grace in a world desperately in need of grace.  God gave us grace so we might rise up and impart words of blessing to those who are expecting curses.  God gave us grace so we might celebrate life rather than tear down life.  God gave us grace so we might give grace to others in their time of need.  And God gave us grace so we might include those that our world rejects.

That’s how God wants His church to work:  God desires that we’d be so full of God’s grace, and so devoted to one another, that the moment we discover someone is hurting, or needs a ride, or is grieving – then we’d simply open our hearts and our hands and do whatever is needed.

When God established His Church, He knew we would face difficulties that would discourage us, adversities that would seek to derail us, and people who would disappoint us.  And God knew there would be times we would struggle with our commitment to His family, the Church.  But God never promised that following Him would be easy.  So like Churchill, He would have us never give in to anything, great or small, large or petty – but that we would stand firm with God’s people no matter what.

Counterfeit passions can quench God’s Spirit in us.  They don’t give our hearts the satisfaction it desires.  So what must we do?  We must allow our hearts to be rekindled by God’s indwelling Holy Spirit.  That’s what Paul means when he writes, “Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor.” And so we ask, how do we do that? The answer is simple: We need to turn up the heat of God’s Holy Spirit in our lives.

These are brief descriptions of the grace God wants to unleash through us.  God has designed His Church to be a community of grace, where each one of us is a peddler of grace to everyone in God’s family.  And He gives us what we need to pull this off!  He gives us spiritual gifts.

We all belong to Jesus, and we all belong to one another.  That means every single Christ-follower is significant and necessary.  I need you and you need me.  We all need each other.  And since God’s Word says you are a member of Christ’s body, your life now has tremendous significance.  Now, because the grace and love of Jesus Christ is in you, and God wants His grace and love to flow through you to bless, heal and help others.

The more God’s Word gets in us, the more the Spirit of God renews every part of our brokenness.  He purifies our corrupted values.  He straightens our crooked understandings.  He fills our empty longings.  And He delivers on His promises. And as His Spirit works in us and renews us He give us this new ability: the ability to test and approve God’s will. And with that new ability we are now able to discern, appreciate and put God’s will into practice in our everyday lives. And as we do that, as we test and approve God’s will in our lives, will come to the place where we see that everything God wants for our lives is GOOD, PLEASING AND PERFECT.
