Learning to walk by the Spirit IS A PROCESS. We don’t become proficient at this overnight. And this certainly doesn’t happen by osmosis. It takes an active choice of the will. We choose to obey. We choose to follow the way of the Spirit. It’s a moment-by-moment choosing. But the more we TRAIN OURSELVES to walk by the Spirit, the more the Spirit will work in us to transform us so we will begin to live and love like Jesus.

“Everything we confess before God is met with compassion not condemnation.”

This is the reality God wants you to know. It’s why He gave you His Holy Spirit to live in you. For once your identity is secure as His child, you will be led by the Spirit, and the things that you once thought were important to you, they will slowly loose their power over you. And you will no longer want anything to do with them, because you will find your life and peace with a Father who loves you completely.

The Holy Spirit comes to be with us. He comes to mediate the presence of Jesus with us, so that we can know him in a personal relationship, not just know about Him. So in this way anyone who follows Jesus can personally encounter Jesus through the life of the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit is the catalyst that helps us know the Father’s love, and it’s the Holy Spirit that now awakens us to want to love like the Father loves. So the next time you experience that inner compulsion to love someone unselfishly, whereas before, you might have feared them, ignored them or rejected them… that is evidence of God’s Holy Spirit alive in you.

God didn’t just love us so we could be forgiven, although that is true. God didn’t just love us so we could know Him and enjoy Him forever, although that is also true. No, God loved us so that He could love through us. This is what you need, what you hunger for, and what our world needs! Real love, sacrificial love, gracious and merciful love. And God loved us so that when we love one another like He loved us, then His love will have gone full circle – it will be complete! What a privilege is ours then, to love one another.

So they began to do this new life together – to share with one another, pray with one another, and they to worship together in the temple courts and from house to house. They began to eat together and serve together. And as they did life together, God did something too. He began to add to their number daily those who were being saved.

That’s the good news of God’s mercy. Out of the abundance of God’s blessing comes the gift of God’s mercy to us in Jesus. He delivers us from the consequences of our sin. He takes away our guilt and shame. He makes us righteous and gives us a new life. That’s the gospel.

God makes us Oaks of righteousness so we can bring new life and peace to our neighborhoods, to our cities, to our nation. To rebuild broken lives through things as simple as the Santa Cruz Valley Food Bank. To restore hope for a generation who has been overwhelmed by poverty. To renew lives by sharing the good news of Jesus Christ. We are planted here as Oaks of righteousness for the display of His splendor, to show our world there is another way of life… the way of the kingdom.
