When anyone comes to faith in Jesus, Jesus changes everything.  With Jesus we don’t have to worry about the future.  With Jesus we don’t have to worry about who’s in charge.  With Jesus we don’t have to fear evil.  And with Jesus we can have joy no matter what’s happening in our world.

To John’s listeners, the message of the kingdom was music to their ears.  To hear that the kingdom was at hand meant a time of peace and prosperity was coming; a time of joy and laughter, and everything good associated with it.  To the average Jew, it was like telling a four year old to go to bed on Christmas Eve, “cause Santa will be here in the morning.”  It was good news.  It was what they’ve been waiting all their lives to hear.

Joseph had no idea that God would turn his life upside down and have him live as a refugee in Egypt.  But God used the evil of Herod for good.   So the next time something ruins your plans, don’t immediately see it as a bad thing.  God may be changing your plans to protect you because He has something better for you.

Looking into one another’s eyes, tears running down their faces, with the understanding that what they’ve been searching for for so long is now right in front of them.  So they rejoiced with great joy!  They celebrated the end of their journey, for God had led them to the Messiah.  God had brought them to Jesus!  And now in finding Jesus, they are about to worship Him.

At the core of God’s salvation plan was to send Jesus to die for you to bring you to God, so as to bring you into fellowship with God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit.  Jesus died for you to make peace between you and God so you can walk with Him, enjoy Him, pour out your heart to Him, lean on Him, learn from Him, be changed by Him so you can serve with Him to help others become friends, family and followers of Him.  This is why there is no one like Jesus.  He was born to die for you, so He could make a way for you to be with Him for eternity

There is a Place for You in His Story! You see Matthew wrote this genealogy to tell us that anyone can find a place in God’s story. You may be the overlooked runt of the litter, like David; or a three-time loser, like Abraham.  You may have a disgraceful past, like Manasseh; or shameful history like Tamar, Rahab or Bathsheba.  But that’s why God chose Jesus to be the center of His story.  So that we would see that no one is outside the mercy and grace of God that’s found in Jesus.
