God never promises to spare you from life’s difficulties, but He does pursue you with His goodness to help carry you through life’s troubling times.   All He asks of us is to trust in His goodness to us.  For God is good all the time and His fountain of goodness toward us has no limit.

If Jesus’ spirit of grace is controlling the spirit within you, then no matter what you face in life, you’ll be all right.  Think about this from Paul’s perspective.  Even in prison, where everything seems to be against him, he has joy and peace, and is above it all because the grace of the Lord Jesus is with his spirit. He is thankful. He is not envious of other people’s success.  He doesn’t complain. He is free from the pull of life’s ambitions.  He’s has peace.  And He is content.

We are holy rebels living for Christ in a world that does not wish to tolerate us.  As such, we need to constantly renew our commitment to one another so we might stand our ground together. And then as we stand the Holy Spirit gives us power.  As we stand in the Spirit, we cannot be defeated.  This is how God calls us to fight – to defend ourselves against the onslaught of the enemy by holding our ground in His Spirit.

We have an opportunity to show people that there is another way to live, especially at a time like this, when life may never go back to the way it was, when our freedoms are being threatened and our lifestyle is being altered.  If our greatest treasure is Jesus, then we will rejoice in Him.  When we live for Him, we will praise and not protest, we will pray and not pout.

If Jesus had the authority to lay down his life and had authority to take up again – then you can trust in the authority of His Word.  You can count on what Jesus says.  And this should give you hope in the darkness.  For when things looked darkest for the disciples, when their world seemed to be falling apart, and when all seemed lost… Jesus rose from the grave, just as he said he would.  And if Jesus did what he said he would do by rising from the dead, you can trust him in whatever he promises.

This is what our Father wants you to know.  Just as God promised to be with Joshua, He will be with you.  In this age of social distancing, God is near.  He doesn’t change. He is always there.  He is always seeking your best.  He is always pursuing you with His love.  “I will be with you wherever you go”  I will be with you when things look bleak.  I’ll be with you when you feel weak.  “So be strong in me.  Get your courage from me.  For I will never leave you nor forsake you. I will be with you wherever you go.”

At the core of God’s salvation plan was to send Jesus to die for you to bring you to God, so as to bring you into fellowship with God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit.  Jesus died for you to make peace between you and God so you can walk with Him, enjoy Him, pour out your heart to Him, lean on Him, learn from Him, be changed by Him so you can serve with Him to help others become friends, family and followers of Him.  This is why there is no one like Jesus.  He was born to die for you, so He could make a way for you to be with Him for eternity

It was Abraham’s faith that produced his action.  The picture is of a partnership: faith works to bring about the action. So faith and action always work together.  His willingness to place his son on the altar and carry out the sacrifice flowed out of His faith, and gave evidence that his faith was genuine.  Faith always works in concert with action.  That’s a faith that works.

Moses’ heart was with pleasing God.  He would rather live for Christ, then be the richest man on earth.  His value system was a kingdom value system, and it was this kingdom value system that dictated his choices.  Can we say the same? Do we make our choices in light of the rewards of eternity or in light of what they can do for us today?  There’s a tension here and we can all feel it: we are constantly being pulled toward the treasures of the world or the treasure of God’s smile. But choices based on faith choose eternities rewards over the rewards of earth.

Noah is a remarkable model of what it means to live by faith.  He believed God’s Word concerning judgment about things not yet seen, so he responded in obedience and built the ark.  But he didn’t build the ark out of fear of judgment, but out of his reverential fear of the God he knew.  And he kept at it for 120 years even though no one else believed.  He lived by faith.  And so God rewarded him.
